DO YOU HAVE A MAIL PILE? Here’s a system to eliminate it once and for all!
Rockefeller University taught me this very handy system for eliminating mail piles. While the Rockefeller’s are not know to have mail pile up, my short time working for the President the Rockefeller University while I was in graduate school, taught me how to manage mail. Since the mid-90s I have employed this easy system — and you will LOVE it!
To begin with, I have a simple folder with three compartments. [insert link] the compartments are labeled as follows: TO DO, TO READ, TO FILE.
Here’s how you empty this methodology:
Collect mail daily
Open mail daily — toss the trash
Sort mail daily into three categories: TO DO, TO READ, TO FILE
Toss anything other than the three categories listed above.
TO DO: These are bills, letters, or any mail that requires a response or action from you.
TO READ: This cold be interesting flyers, magazines, brochures, direct mail that you immediately have an interest in and would like to read / enjoy later
TO FILE: These documents are bank statements, insurance documents, report cards, documents for tax filings, etc.
Here’s how you use it.
Once a month, dedicate time to the “TO DO” section of the mail folder. (Basically this is the “Pay your bills” section). Move paid bills to the “TO FILE” section.
This is how you handle mail to keep piles eliminated once and for all!
